It's Your Call
No issue is of more importance to
Christians than where the candidates stand on the sanctity of life, both
at the beginning and end of life. Here's where this
year's politicians stand:
John Kerry (Democrat):
1. Has a litmus test for any Supreme Court appointments he makes: "As President, I will only appoint Supreme Court Justices who will uphold a woman's right to choose," Sen. Kerry stated during the speech announcing his candidacy. 2. Opposes all restrictions on a woman's right to have an abortion and supported the Harkin Amendment to endorse the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision which made abortion a constitutional right. 3. Voted against the partial birth abortion ban that was passed by Congress. 4. Voted against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (often referred to as the Laci Peterson law). 5. Would allow distribution of morning-after abortion drugs such as RU486. 6. Voted 3 times against parental notification laws. 7. Supports taxpayer-funded abortions in military medical facilities and for Medicaid recipients as well as spending foreign aid dollars to fund overseas pro-abortion organizations. 8. Supports destroying additional embryos for embryonic stem-cell research. 9. Has a perfect NARAL (Pro-abortionists) score: 100% pro-abortion voting record. 10. Opposed a key procedural vote on the Medicare Modernization Act that protects senior citizens on Medicare from involuntary euthanasia or government-imposed rationing of life-saving medical care or prescriptions under Medicare. 11. Supports "the state's right to decide whether or not to legalize assisted suicide." George W. Bush
(Republican):
1. Signed into law the ban on partial birth abortions. 2. Allowed embryonic stem-cell research on embryos that had already been destroyed to harvest stem cells but barred further government funding that would result in more embryos being destroyed. Supports government funding of adult and umbilical cord stem-cell research. 3. Opposes morning-after abortion drugs such as RU486. 4. Supports parental notification laws. 5. Opposes taxpayer funding of abortions in military hospitals, for Medicaid patients, and foreign aid to international pro-abortion groups. 6. Supports a pro-life constitutional amendment. 7. Does not have a "litmus test" but promises to appoint only judges who are "strict constructionists," not "activists" who legislate from the bench. His appointments to lower courts, thus far, uphold this promise and have triggered several filibusters of court appointments in the Senate. 8. Signed the Medicare Modernization Act after a procedural vote protected senior citizens from involuntary euthanasia under Medicare. Michael Badnarik (Libertarian):
Opposes all legislation to restrict abortions.
Ralph Nader (Reform): 1. Opposes all legislation to restrict a woman's right to have an abortion. 2. Opposes "assisted suicide" laws such as Oregon's Death with Dignity Law. Michael Peroutka (Constitution Party):
A 100% pro-life candidate.
Supports a total ban on all abortions.
Other Races: · U.S. Senate: Mel Martinez (Republican) has been endorsed as the pro-life candidate. Betty Castor (Democrat) is pro-abortion. The positions of the other independent or write-in candidates are unknown. · U.S. Representative: 1. District 3: Corrine Brown (Democrat) has a 100% perfect voting record against life or for abortion rights. Independent Johnny Brown's position is unknown. 2. District 4: Ander Crenshaw (Republican) has been endorsed as a pro-life candidate. Independent Richard Grayson's position is unknown. 3. District 6: Cliff Stearns (Republican) has been endorsed as a pro-life candidate. Dave Bruderly (Independent) is pro-abortion. · State Senate District 5: Steve Wise has been endorsed as a pro-life candidate. The positions of Independents David Organes and Samuel Sasser are unknown. · State Representative District 18: Neither Don Davis (Republican) nor Ty Price (Libertarian) won pro-life endorsements. · Florida State Supreme Court Justices: Both Justice Kenneth Bell and Raoul G. Cantero III voted against Terry's Law, passed by the State Legislature and signed by Governor Bush, in a recent decision. This law prevented Terry Schiavo's husband from removing her feeding tubes, which would cause Terry to die of starvation and dehydration. This Month in Florida History OCTOBER 2

a coquina fortress capable of withstanding attacks from British colonists in
Carolina.
The fort still
stands today as a monument to the patriots of Florida's past.
OCTOBER 3 1802 John Gorrie, the
acknowledged inventor of air conditioning, was born today. Gorrie, a
physician, was born in Charleston, SC. and later settled in
Apalachicola, Florida. The idea for artificially cooling air in
limited spaces was recognized by the U.S. Patent office when it granted
him Patent Number 8080 on May 6, 1851.
A statue of John Gorrie was placed in the Capitol rotunda in Washington, DC, in 1914. Gorrie is one of two Floridians thus honored. OCTOBER 5
1862 The City of Jacksonville was occupied today by Federal
forces. The city is practically deserted. Union pickets
encountered Confederate cavalry two miles east of the city.
Confederate units are camped about 12 miles west of Jacksonville.
OCTOBER 6 1862
Floridians are voting today for state offices (Senate and House of Representatives) under
the new Confederate Constitution of Florida.
OCTOBER 7 1763 On this date, British
Florida was divided into East Florida and West Florida by Royal Proclamation. The dividing
line was the Chattahoochee-Apalachicola
River..
OCTOBER 27 1912 Today the Cohen Brothers, operators of Jacksonville's oldest department store (founded in 1867), opened a "block square" store in the St. James Building facing Hemming Park. Today, this building is the site of the Jacksonville City Hall. OCTOBER 27 1834 A Seminole Council was held today at Fort King (Ocala). Osceola, Micanopy and other chiefs expressed strong hostility to the policy of removal to lands west of the Mississippi River. OCTOBER 31 1900 Citizens of Jacksonville and North Florida experienced eight distinctive earthquake shocks at about 11:15 a.m. on today. The shocks, rated as 5 on the Mercalli Scale, produced broken windows, cracked plaster, and broken dishes. Twice before in 1879 and 1880 Florida experienced earthquakes in the modern age.

Debating To
Obey the Constitution
The oath to be taken by the
President of these United States on first entering office is specified in
Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution: "I do solemnly swear (or
affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the
United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and
defend the Constitution of the United States."
But when President Bush and John Kerry "debated" in Miami St. Louis and Tempe, neither man challenged anything the other has advocated or done on the grounds that what they have advocated or done is un-Constitutional. Why not? Because both men favor numerous actions that are un-Constitutional. For example, and this list is by no means comprehensive:
During World War II, there was a time period when there were no major military operations in continental Europe despite the fact that the great powers in Europe had declared war on one another. This phase has been called "The Phony War." And so it is with Mr. Bush and Senator Kerry. Though both men are, supposedly, at odds on a number of issues, they are not fighting --- and will not fight in any of their "debates" --- about whether what they stand for is Constitutional. Thus, on this crucial issue, any war they are thought to be fighting is phony. If elected President, Mr. Peroutka will take his oath to God seriously. He promises to strive to eradicate from the law books any and all laws that are un-Constitutional and ursurp the powers granted to the people and the States. He will fight unceasingly to prevent all future un-Constitutional laws. His campaign demonstes to the American voters that there is a Constitutional choice for President. Florida's Constitution Eight ballot initiatives/amendments will be available for Florida's voters' yeas or neas this November 2nd. These are important issues that deserve each reader's attention. to remedy the social, political, and cultural disunity that pervades this land.
It will not be an easy road to travel, as
those in power are not prone to give it up voluntarily. Empowering
the States and their people, as was intended by the framers to restrain the
natural tendency toward despotism is the only possible way we will be able to
free ourselves, not only from our own servitude, but perhaps the rest
of the world's as well.

Looking for Mommy and Daddy? Dizzy from all the post-debate spin? If the campaign operatives and their media courtiers are being paid primarily to see how many days of hype they can squeeze out of a 90-minute event, they are certainly earning their salaries. One of the many news stories rehashing John Kerry's "global test" and how many times President Bush said "uh" made note of this Herculean effort by the campaigns to persuade the American people that they had just witnessed political oration on the order of the Lincoln-Douglas debates. What's wrong with this picture? Tempe, Arizona October 13, Presidential Debate. Candidate John Kerry spoke to an estimated 50 million people and said: "I also believe that because we are the United States of America, we're a country with a great, unbelievable Constitution, with rights that we afford people." How scary is that statement? Just who is this "we" in the message and has the candidate ever read and studied the Constitution he has sworn to uphold or the Declaration of Independence? Apparently, he has no idea that the Founders of his country understood that "men ... are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights --That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." Did Candidate George Bush agree with Senator Kerry's assessment of the Constitution? Apparently he did as he failed to challenge his opponent on this important issue. You be the judge.
