Amending Our Constitution

Do we need a constitutional amendment on marriage, not only to protect marriage, but to demonstrate to the courts that they exceeded their power in constitutionalizing marriage in the first place?

Federal judges are now so powerful that they feel free to invent the Constitution as they move along.  (If the definition of marriage - an understanding as old as time - violates constitutional strictures, one wonders what centuries' old legal notions the "mysteries of the universe" will invalidate next.)

In light of these astonishing developments, it is absolutely clear why so many people are putting the words "marriage" and "constitution" in the same sentence.  Many feel an amendment is necessary to preserve not only the social viability of marriage, but the political integrity of the Constitution.

Well, speaking of Constitutions, God, governments and judges, notice the difference between the preambles of these two documents.

CONSTITUTION FOR THE UNITED STATES:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

CONSTITUTION OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES:

We, the people of the Confederate States, each State acting in its sovereign and independent character, in order to form a permanent federal government, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity--invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God--do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Confederate States of America.

But more to the point of the subject, had the Confederate Constitution survived, citizens of the Southern States might now be taking care of this judicial situation constitutionally.  Southern leaders in 1861 foresaw the centralization and omnipotence of the United States federal government and rewrote the rules for their central government in several areas to strengthen the sovereignty of the Southern States and her People.  One such change was to amend Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 of the U. S. Constitution in this manner:

The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of impeachment; except that any judicial or other Federal officer, resident and acting solely within the limits of any State, may be impeached by a vote of two-thirds of both branches of the Legislature thereof.

If an amendment is needed, should we not bow to their wisdom?  In doing so, judges like Myron Thompson and others could very well be in the unemployment line.

Of course, God was not an issue at that time since He was accepted as being the source of our natural rights and freedom.  This can be seen in many ways, not the least of which was our Southern President calling upon the Congress to "reverently let us invoke the God of our fathers to guide and protect us in our efforts to perpetuate the principles, which by His blessing they were able to vindicate, establish and transmit to their posterity.  With the continuance of His favor ever gratefully acknowledged, we may hopefully look forward to success, to peace and to prosperity."

If our leaders would have the courage to proclaim this today, we just might have that success, peace and prosperity Mr. Davis spoke of.

Did You Know That:

As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view - it is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall, right above where the Supreme Court judges sit, a display of the Ten Commandments!

There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington, D.C.

James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement "We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country said, "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but  on the Gospel of Jesus Christ".

Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777.

Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies.

Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law....an oligarchy....the rule of few over many.
The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said, "Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."

How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?

Answer to last quiz:

What famous statesman declared? "There is merit in the Republican party. It is the first sectional party ever organized in this country. It does not know its own face, but calls itself national; but it is not national, -- it is sectional. The Republican party is a party of the North pledged against the South."

Answer: Wendell Phillips.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts, and a descendent of that city's first mayor, Phillips left the legal profession in 1836 to dedicate his life to the anti-slavery cause and became a leader of the radical abolitionists.

Many good answers were received, but no one had the correct one.
